At 53.4mm, the patented Pullman BigStep base features a thinner but wider design that aims to cover a larger bed of coffee, especially on ridgeless baskets to improve your extractions. On the other hand, the Breville Barista measures 53.3 mm, which is more traditional and compatible even with ridged baskets.
